Uzbekistan postpons construction of Jizzakh refinery

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan postponed the construction of the Jizzakh refinery. This was stated by the deputy director of Neftegazinvest (a division of Uzbekneftegaz) Husniddin Turaev.
This decision was made due to the fact that now there are three oil refineries (Bukhara, Fergana and Alty-Aryk) with a total capacity of 11 million tons of oil per year. However, they are not loaded due to a shortage of raw materials.
He noted that the concept of the project was revised. It was decided to modernize the existing plants - the Bukhara and Fergana refineries. It is not clear yet when the project for the construction of the Jizzakh refinery may be resumed.
Jizzakh Petroleum is a joint venture (JV) Gas Project Development Central Asia AG (GPD, subsidiary of Gazprom International) and Uzbekneftegaz. The share of GPD in the joint venture is 40% and Uzbekneftegaz - 60%.
Jizzakh Petroleum was created by companies in June 2017 for the construction of a new oil refining complex in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan.
It was planned that the Jizzakh refinery would process 5 million tons per year of hydrocarbon raw materials supplied, in particular, from Russia and Kazakhstan.
