Delegation of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank visits Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 March, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan held a meeting with the delegation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank headed by K. Limitovsky, senior adviser to the president of the bank. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the prospects for comprehensive cooperation of this financial cooperation with Uzbekistan.
During the dialogue, it was announced that the accelerated intensification of close cooperation of the parties will allow to use the huge potential in this direction: a package of more than 40 promising investment projects was presented to partners for co-financing in the field of integrated development of basic infrastructure of the regions, modernization of the energy and transport systems, construction and reconstruction highways and electrification of railways.
Separately discussed was the development and implementation of the Ministry of Development program for medium and small cities and the possibility of using individual resources of the bank for its implementation. Representatives of the bank also paid special attention to the step-by-step initiative proposed by the head of state to radically renew the entire infrastructure of Bukhara oblast, calculated for 3 years, and the subsequent extension of this model to other regions of the country.
The head of the AIIB delegation expressed readiness to make all possible efforts to intensify constructive and fruitful cooperation in the framework of the projects under consideration, and noted that the bank’s management regards Central Asia, and Uzbekistan in particular, as an important geographical area located in the area of the organization’s interests.
Following the meeting, the parties placed emphasis and priorities in the framework of mechanisms for further cooperation and discussed the format of a comprehensive program for financing projects in Uzbekistan, with a view to its subsequent expansion by including additional projects.
Under the three-day program of the delegation’s stay, additional meetings of representatives of the AIIB with the leadership of a number of ministries and commercial banks of Uzbekistan are scheduled.
