Uzbekistan, Spain hold the sixth round of political consultations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 February 2019, the sixth round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Spain took place in Tashkent.
The delegations were headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Dilshod Akhatov, and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, Fernando Valenzuela Marceau.
Concrete measures to further strengthen the interaction of our countries were discussed, and an exchange of views on international and regional issues took place.
As emphasized at the talks, the Uzbek-Spanish partnership was given a special dynamic by the meeting of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev with the King of Spain Felipe VI on 9 June 2017 in Astana. The established constructive and trustful dialogue between the heads of state opens up new prospects for the further development of mutually beneficial ties.
The parties confirmed their interest in the participation of Spanish companies in projects to create high-tech industries in Uzbekistan in various sectors of the economy, including the agricultural sector, electrical, chemical, construction and pharmaceutical industries, engineering, textiles and food industry, tourism.
It was noted that the holding in 2019 of the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Industrial Cooperation will expand cooperation, support direct contacts between businessmen of the two countries at the government level.
An important role in bilateral relations is played by interaction in the Uzbekistan-EU format, taking into account the active role of Spain in the European Union. The Spanish side supported the start of negotiations on a new Agreement on expanded partnership and cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU, as well as the entry of our country into the World Trade Organization. As noted, these topics today will also be discussed by the Spanish delegation during negotiations in ministries and departments of Uzbekistan.
The meeting also considered other issues on the common agenda.
Upon completion of the political consultations, the parties signed the Program of Cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries for 2019-2020.
