TSAU establishes partnership with Mississippi schools

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 11-14 February 2019, during the stay of the Uzbek delegation in Mississippi, the head of Tashkent State Agrarian University (TSAU) Botirjon Sulaimanov met with a leadership of a number of specialized US educational institutions universities.
At a meeting with the President of the University of Mississippi Alcorna Donzel Lee, the sides discussed prospects for inter-academic cooperation, in particular implementation of student and teacher exchange programs, double-diploma education, online training, and joint research in the field of agronomy, plant and animal biology, soil science, forestry, and in general agro-industrial management.
With the president of the Northwestern Community College, Michael Heindal, the issues of attracting college experts and teachers to design and implement training programs for engineering and technical personnel for agroclusters in Uzbekistan were considered. Mutual interest was expressed in creation of a joint Center for training in the use of equipment and technologies of American companies implementing investment projects in the country.
The issues of cooperation in implementation of academic and research cooperation were also discussed with the head of the Mississippi Higher Education Institutes Alfred Renkins. The Board of Trustees of this institution makes key decisions on the accreditation of academic programs of universities, funding, as well as the expansion of their representation abroad.
The rector of the TSAU also held talks with the vice-rector and executive vice president of the University of Mississippi Judy Bonner and heads of relevant departments and departments of the American university.
Following the meeting, an agreement on cooperation between two universities was signed, and a “road map” on implementation of the agreements reached was adopted.
The documents envisages implementation of academic and expert exchange programs, as well as conducting scientific research in the areas of fish farming, forestry, cotton growing, fruit-growing, water management. A separate aspect of cooperation in the near future is the introduction of joint double-degree programs in the direction of the master’s program in agribusiness and management.
During a visit to the campus of an American university, a separate meeting was held with George Hooper, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, during which the parties exchanged views on improving the effectiveness of the training system for the agro-industrial complex, conducting applied research to improve crop yields and food security.
The delegation from Uzbekistan also had the opportunity to get acquainted with the activities of the Laboratory for the Study of Meat Products, which studies the entire production cycle, including breeding livestock, cutting meat, freezing and storing semi-finished products, processing, packaging and production of finished products.
At the College of Veterinary Medicine, representatives of the agricultural university familiarized themselves with the educational and scientific and applied aspects of the activities of this institution and studied in detail the practice of working on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, as well as disorders and injuries of animals.
The delegation also visited the Experimental Station on Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Mississippi to get acquainted with research activities in the cultivation of crops, fish farming, and effective water management in agriculture.
During the meeting with the representatives of the Experimental Station and the “Delta” Research Center included in its structure, prospects for joint research were discussed, including those aimed at optimizing irrigation systems, protecting crops from pests and diseases, as well as increasing the efficiency of fisheries and livestock.
According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States, the next visit of the delegation of the University of Mississippi at the university management level in Uzbekistan is expected in April this year.
