Law enforcement agencies stop the illegal sale of 13 kilograms of mercury

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Employees of the anti-smuggling and customs offenses department of Tashkent city customs bodies prevented the illegal sale of such toxic substances as mercury.
During the operational event held in Chilanzar district of the city of Tashkent, the citizens of R. B. and KD when trying to sell almost 13 kilograms of poisonous substance to fake buyers and receiving an advance payment of US$3,000 from the negotiated US$103,000, the press service of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.
Exposure to mercury, even in small quantities, can cause health problems and severe poisoning. Mercury has a toxic effect on the nervous, digestive and immune systems, lungs, kidneys, skin and eyes. According to the hazard class, mercury belongs to the first class, that is, it is considered an extremely dangerous chemical substance. Mercury penetration into the body often occurs when inhaling its odorless vapors.
At present, according to the revealed fact of an offense, the relevant procedural documents have been drawn up and customs checks are continuing.
