Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting was held on the problems of combating human trafficking. The event organized by Tashkent city police and held in the khokimiyat of the capital.
The event was attended representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office, Tashkent city police, khokimiyat, the Women’s Committee of Tashkent, the City Council of the Youth Union, the Main Directorate for Employment and Labor Relations, and other interested structures and organizations among the participants.
The event was opened by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan - the head of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate of Tashkent, Rustam Juraev, who is the Chairman of the interdepartmental commission on combating human trafficking in the city of Tashkent. He gave a report on the work done over the past year. It was emphasized that according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated March 14, 2017 “On measures to further improve the system of crime prevention and crime control” a Republican interdepartmental commission on combating human trafficking was established.
In 2018, a roadmap was developed to combat human trafficking and illegal migration in Tashkent. As a result, the number of crimes related to trafficking in human beings decreased by 65 percent compared to 2017: in 2017, 49 crimes of trafficking in persons were recorded (article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan), in 2018 - 17.
He also noted that since most often the victims of the attackers are women and minor children, the work on the prevention of this type of crime in makhallas and educational institutions, at enterprises and in organizations was strengthened.
In addition, propaganda work was carried out by the responsible authorities, as a result of which 39,614 people who had previously left for abroad returned to their homes. They all underwent a medical examination. 1,308 persons were hospitalized and provided with qualified medical assistance.
According to the General Directorate of Employment of the city of Tashkent, out of 39,614 people, 6,302 people were employed, 4,532 were minors, and the necessary measures were taken to enable them to get an education, including a special vocational one.
During the meeting, the participants exchanged views and suggestions on how to improve the work on early warning of this type of crime, such as trafficking in persons, and defined the range of tasks for the current year.
