Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The presentation of the mobile application (MA) TOMCHI designed to draw attention to water saving , was held in Tashkent today. The MA was developed by the National Water Resources Management Project in Uzbekistan funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan.
The TOMCHI application is intended for farmers, employees of water management organizations and other water users, including entrepreneurs who produce and install water-saving irrigation technologies. In addition, irrigation and agricultural specialists, students and faculty members of branch-wise universities, as well as a wide audience dealing with water resources management issues, may be interested in the MA.
TOMCHI is a unique product. It provides instant access to information on water-saving irrigation techniques; explains their benefits and enables to calculate approximate cost of introducing water-saving technologies; serves as a unified communication platform for producers and users of the technologies; and facilitates feedback with the users.
The government of Uzbekistan is taking active steps to introducing water-saving technologies. However, for the local market, these technologies are new, and not all farmers can afford them, for now. Often, farmers face difficulties in finding reliable information on this matter. The TOMCHI provides users with information on the benefits of water-saving technologies, prices in local markets, manufacturers, local and international trends, company profiles, etc.".
During the presentation, project specialists noted that the application is compact, broad-ranging, illustrative, and user-friendly. TOMCHI has the function of a calculator of the cost of introducing water-saving technologies, such as drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, irrigation using hydrogel, etc..
It is important to note that the MA will be linked to the knowledge portal of Information, Analytical, and Resource Centre of the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan, where comprehensive information on water-saving technologies as well as information and data on all aspects of water management will be posted.
The TOMCHI app can be downloaded for free from the Apple Store and Google Play.
