Uzbekistan and Tajikistan start demining a common border - media

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Tajikistan started demining a common border. This was reported by the media in Tajikistan.
The official representative of the border unit of Tajikistan, Mohammed Ulughodzhaev, said that mine clearance began in the zone between Penjikent district in Tajikistan and Samarkand region in Uzbekistan.
Demining is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in March 2018 agreed to clear the joint border area from mines
In April, a working group was established, which included representatives and engineers of the two countries. The total area of mined areas is 9.5 square km.
