Pilot PPP projects in the field of public education to be implemented in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Two pilot projects of public-private partnership in public education sector will be implemented on the basis of two state schools in Shayhontohur district of Tashkent.
The Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan announced a competition among investors for theimplementation of pilot projects of public-private partnership on the basis of schools No. 136 and No. 141.
On 5 September 2018, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution on measures to introduce new management principles into the public education system. This document opened up the opportunity to develop public-private partnership in the field of public education.
The resolution defines seven areas of public-private partnership (PPP) in the field of public education, which are aimed at attracting private investment in development of school education.
It should be noted that 303 secondary schools now function in Tashkent, of which 110 are not working in their full capacity. In particular, these two schools are not working in full capacity.
Deputy Minister of Public Education Sarvar Babakhodjayev said: “With these pilot projects we want to attract private investment in public education. With investments, we will attract innovations and qualified specialists in the field of education, which in turn will improve the quality of education. ”
“Within the framework of the PPP project, investors will have to create all conditions for the education of children and the work of teachers. In turn, investors will receive the right to use property and school facilities for 30 years,” he said.
“At the same time, the existing contingent of students will receive a quality education in good conditions. I note that within the framework of the PPP agreement to be concluded by the investor, at least 20% of the total number of pupils will be children from families in need of social support,” Sarvarbek Sadullayev, Specialist of the Ministry of Public Education, added.
