EurAsEC suspends Uzbekistan’s membership

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) suspended membership of Uzbekistan in the organization [EurAsEC] on Friday. Uzbekistan joined the regional economic body in 2006.
The decision was adopted at the meeting of EurAsEC Prime Ministers.Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced the EurAsEC decision, but he did not elaborate on the issue.
The community now comprises Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
The secretariat of the EurAsEC Integration Committee received on 20 October a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, conveying a letter from President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov with a notification that the Republic of Uzbekistan was suspending its membership in EurAsEC.
