Uzbekistan can become a member of IOM

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of participating in the work of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as a full member. This was announced at the meetings in the Uzbek Foreign Ministry with the delegation of IOM headed by the Director-General William Lacy Swing.
Currently, Uzbekistan is not a member of IOM, whose mission is to contribute to the solution of migration regulation issues, development of international cooperation in this field.
During the conversation, the sides discussed promising areas for development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and IOM, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
The IOM delegation was informed that the Uzbek side is considering the possibility of participating in the work of the organization as a full member. In this context, the sides confirmed mutual interest in strengthening and expanding relations.
The program of the IOM delegation’s visit to Uzbekistan also includes meetings in the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Government, the Ministries of Employment and Labor Relations, the Interior, and the Prosecutor General’s Office.
