Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 November 2017, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yury Fedotov.
Fedotov arrived in Tashkent as the head of the UNODC delegation to hold bilateral talks and participate in the 5th scientific and practical conference of the SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure “Fighting Terrorism - Cooperation without Borders”.
The sides discussed state and prospects of strengthening the relations between Uzbekistan and the UNODC in context of expanding cooperation with the UN as a whole and its specialized institutions, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
The sides confirmed mutual interest in further development of cooperation in various forms and formats.
Currently, national and regional programmes are implemented in Uzbekistan with the assistance of the UNODC. The relevant Uzbek structures participate in implementation of the Regional Program for Afghanistan and neighboring countries for 2016-2019, as well as the Program for Central Asian States for 2015-2019.
Uzbekistan adopted a programme for comprehensive measures to counter drug abuse and illicit trafficking for 2016-2020, which is currently implemented. It pays special attention to improving the regulatory framework in the field of regulating drug trafficking and providing narcological assistance, improving the material and technical base and human resources of law enforcement agencies and narcological service.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
Head of the UNODC Regional Representation in Central Asia Ashita Mittal took part in the conversation.
