Chairpersons of SCO Supreme Courts hold meeting in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The twelfth meeting of Chairpersons of the Supreme Courts of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states was held in Tashkent on 25 October.
Representatives of the Supreme Courts of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Pakistan and the Ambassador of India in Uzbekistan attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the parties considered a number of topical issues aimed at further intensifying cooperation between Supreme Courts of the SCO member states to ensure the rule of law, rights and legitimate interests of citizens, as well as to exchange experience in this direction.
The sides discussed issues of institutional mechanisms for investment protection, further improvement of legislative framework aimed at resolving conflicts in this area.
The agreement of the chairmen of the Supreme Courts of the SCO member states on further improving the effectiveness of legal assistance in criminal and civil matters plays an important role in further strengthening the fight against crime, it was noted.
The meeting also discussed issues of countering attempts to involve youth in terrorist and extremist movements.
Noting the mutual understanding in development of judicial systems of the SCO member states, confirming adherence to the principles, ideas and tasks of the Organization, the sides noted that development of cooperation between the Supreme Courts of the SCO member states is carried out on the principles of mutual trust, friendship and good neighborliness, ensuring peace and security in the region , in accordance with the SCO Charter, the Treaty on Long-term Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation of the SCO Member States and the SCO Development Strategy until 2025.
It was stressed that the practical interaction between the Supreme Courts of the SCO member states contributes to further improvement of joint activities in the field of protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens, strengthening justice, law and order, and creating conditions for deepening judicial and legal reforms.
Following the meeting, a joint statement on prospects for cooperation between the highest judicial authorities of the SCO member states was signed.
