Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Interior Affairs of Uzbekistan stated that individuals will not be allowed to purchase firearms or other types of weapons, which represent social danger, for self-defense.
A draft law “On arms” was published for discussion and many comments and proposals were received. In this connection, Uzbek Interior Ministry issued a statement.
Uzbek Ministry said that the purpose of the draft law is to regulate legal relations in the field of trafficking of civil, service and military weapons and ammunition to them on the territory of Uzbekistan.
The draft law determines category of the state bodies, legal entities and individuals, who can acquire, bear and use weapons.
It will also set powers of the state bodies and organization, related to possession and use of certain types of weapons, in particular, military formations, law enforcement agencies and other law enforcement agencies, and legal entities in performing their tasks to protect life and health of citizens, property, protection of nature and natural resources, valuable and dangerous goods, special correspondence.
The document will set restrictions on turnover some types of weapons and ammunition, which present increased social danger (traumatic, plastic weapons, high-powered pneumatic and gas weapons, weapons using radioactive radiation, biological factors, etc.).
It will also set mechanisms for licensing of the activities in the sphere of arms turnover and certification of produced and imported weapons and ammunition, identification of specific grounds for the seizure of weapons and ammunition, etc.
The document envisages that citizens can possess firearms for hunting and sports, the Uzbek Ministry said. It added that citizens can acquire firearms or other socially dangerous weapons for self-defense.
Citizens can also possess gas cans, mechanical sprayers, aerosol and other devices equipped with tear or irritating substances, as well as electroshock devices and spark gaps for their defense. All these devices should be approved by the Uzbek Health Ministry to use.
Citizens should receive special permits from the interior bodies to use these devices. The interior bodies will carry out verification before issuing permissions.
