Uzbekistan suspends construction of Tashkent-4 passenger terminal

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan temporarily suspended implementation of the project “Construction of a new international passenger terminal of Tashkent Airport (Tashkent-4)”.
On 30 June, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures to implement the project “Construction of a modern airport complex of civil (business) aviation on the basis of the “Tashkent-Vostochny” airfield”.
The resolution said that the decision was adopted to temporarily suspend implementation of the investment project “Construction of a new international passenger terminal of the Tashkent airport (Tashkent-4)”.
The document underlined that implementation of the project in the city territory requires the demolition of residential and non-residential buildings, transfer of the section of the Karasu Canal, as well as resettlement of citizens, which leads to certain complaints from the population living, in the area of construction.
Uzbekistan Havo Yollari (Uzbekistan Airways) started to realize the investment project “Construction of new international passenger terminal of Tashkent Airport (Tashkent-4)” within the programme on development and modernization of engineering-communication and road-transport infrastructure for 2015-219.
The project was aimed at improving quality of services to passengers and increasing capacity of the airport.
The feasibility study was developed due to grant of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The consortium of Korea Incheon International Airport Corporation, Heerim Architects & Planners, Yooshin Engineering Corporation, The Korea Transport Institute, EY Hanyong developed the project’s feasibility study.
In December 2016, the Uzbek Government and Eximbank of Korea signed a loan agreement for the realization of the project for US$430.974 million. The EDCF Fund issued the loan.
New international terminal Tashkent-4 will occupy 87,000 square meters. The terminal after launch will serve over 1,500 passengers an hour or 5.4 million passengers a year.
The building of the terminal will be in form of Humo bird with spread wings and will have platform for 36 aircrafts and parking station for 1,700 places. It is expected that new terminal will be commissioned in 2020.
