Uzbekistan and Afghanistan intend to raise mutual trade up to US$1bn

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Afghanistan intend to bring mutual trade up to US$1 billion by the end of 2017, Foreign Trade Minister of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev, commenting the results of the meeting of Presidents of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Astana.
Elyor Ganiyev noted that the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan reached agreement on organization of supply up to 300,000 tonnes of mineral fertilizers, 2,000 units of agricultural machinery, up to 250,000 tonnes of food wheat and other products to Afghanistan each year.
He said that currently there are all reserves and opportunities to increasing the volume of mutual trade to at least US$1 billion by the end of 2017.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Ashraf Ghani noted importance of rapid start of design and construction of the railway route Mazar-i-Sharif-Shibergan-Maymana-Herat, the Minister noted.
According to him, this railroad will create a transport economic corridor in the north-west of Afghanistan.
Elyor Ganiev said that Uzbekistan and Afghanistan are drafting an agreement on trade and cooperation in the field of transit. In his opinion, the document will also increase mutual trade between the countries.
