Senate approves constitutional law “On Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved the constitutional law “On Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, which is aimed at further expanding the powers of the Constitutional Court, further democratizing the order of its formation.
The law clearly defines terms of office and the requirements for candidates for judges. According to the law, it is not allowed to elect the members of the Constitutional Court more than twice for five year term.
Now, the judges cannot be younger than 35 and elder than 70 years. The law expands reasons, which can lead to early termination of the powers of the judge.
The basic principles of the activity of the Constitutional Court are expanded by incorporating such principles as the supremacy of the Constitution, adversariality and equality of the parties.
Cabinet of Ministers and the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Oliy Majlis now can submit questions to consideration of the Constitutional Court.
