Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan hosted a roundtable “Perspectives of development of biogas energy in Uzbekistan” on 14 December.
The event was aimed at discussing current state and perspectives of further developing in biogas energy in the sectors of economy and social sphere, as well as developing proposals on solving excising problems.
The Government of Uzbekistan pays great attention to development of renewable sources energy, including solar, wind, biomass and others.
Ensuring stable energy is crucial as the economy of Uzbekistan is growing along with demand for fuel-energy resources.
Biogas typically refers to a mixture of different gases produced by the breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. Biogas can be produced from raw materials such as agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste or food waste. It is a renewable energy source and in many cases exerts a very small carbon footprint. Biogas consists of 50-70% of methane. It can be used for production of electricity, heating (hot water and heating). Waste of biogas is used as fertilizers.
Currently, there are over 6,000 farms, which breed over 650,000 cattle and 21 million birds and produce annually 6 million tonnes of organic waste.
Several farms in Uzbekistan already are using biogas facilities, processing bio waste and producing biogas and fertilizers.
It was noted that introduction of biogas facilities will help farmers to increase their income and ensure uninterrupted supply of energy. Production of bio fertilizers will decrease dependence of agriculture enterprises from supply of mineral fertilizers.
