Govn’t adopt decision on optimization of agriculture lands in Surkhandarya region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan issued a resolution “On measures on improving structure of sown areas of crops in Surkhandarya region”.
The document was adopted to ensure rational use of agriculture culture taking into soil and climate conditions of the region, effective use of land and water resources, etc.
With the resolution, the Government adopted decision on optimization of agriculture soil in Surkhandarya region.
The resolution said that the region will cut agriculture soil, used to production of cotton, from 117,100 hectare in 2016 to 90,300 hectare in 2019. Fields for grain crops will be decreased from 98,000 hectare to 93,000 hectare in the reporting period.
At the same time, the region will increase agriculture fields, allocated to production of potatoes (by 2,100 hectares), vegetables (17,700 hectares), fruits (4,400 hectares), forage crops (4,100), oilseeds (2,200 hectares) and other crops (1,300 hectares).
In the result, by 2019, the region will cut cotton production up to 264,000 tonnes (-64,800 tonnes) and increase production grain to 474,000 tonnes (+20,600 tonnes), potatoes to 118,000 tonnes (52,000 tonnes), vegetables to 890,000 tonnes (+390,000 tonnes), fruits to 172,000 tonnes (+60,000 tonnes), forage crops to 125,000 tonnes (+60,000 tonnes), oilseeds to 5,500 (+5,200 tonnes) and other cultures to 182,000 tonnes (+27,000 tonnes).
