Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Russia Vladimir Putin arrived in Samarkand on 6 September to pay tribute to the memory of the first President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov.
After arrival to Samarkand, Russian President immediately headed to the Shakhi Zinda cementry, where Islam Karimov was buried on 3 September.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid flowers at the tomb of Islam Karimov. Kneeling in front of the tomb of Karimov, Putin laid a bouquet of red roses.
Vladimir Putin also met with the deceased president’s family and expressed his condolences.
The First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov died at the age of 78 on 2 September after suffering a stroke. He was buried in Samarkand on 3 September. Putin could visit funeral ceremony due to his participation in G20 summit in China.
