Uzbekistan plans to increase coal mining to 11m tonnes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to increase coal mining up to 11 million tonnes in 2018 against 4.398 million tonnes in 2014, the press service of Uzbekugol said.
In the result of the growth of mining of coal, its share in fuel-energy balance from 5% to 20%, which will allow to save 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year, used at thermal power stations of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekugol is planning to implement projects on modernization of the industry for US$560 million to increase coal mining up to 11 million tonnes of coal. According to the company, the volume of mining works will reach 54 million cubic meters (+3.3 times).
In particular, the company plans to direct about US$232.9 million to modernize its equipment, US$106.5 million – increase of mining of brown coal and US$101.3 million – increase mining of coal.
The projects will be financed due to loans of foreign and the Uzbek banks, as well as own resources of Uzbekugol.
Uzbekugol is expecting that soon it will increase mining of useful mineral resources, including primary and secondary kaolin (10.5 million tonnes a year), limestone (4 million tonnes a year) and pebbles (9 million tonnes a year).
