Latvian delegation visits Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Latvia led by Deputy Minister of Transport Uldis Reimanis arrived in Uzbekistan on 1 June 2015.
The delegation includes representatives of companies, which operate in transport and logistics sphere. Among them are Freeport of Riga, Freeport of Ventspils, Latvian Railways, Riga Airport, AirBaltic, etc.
Latvia is one of the largest trade partners of Uzbekistan in the European Union. Uzbekistan uses ports of Latvia to get access to external markets. Latvian companies regularly participate in international exhibition “TransUzbekistan”.
The Latvian delegation participated in the business meeting with the entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan at the TechnoPlaza business center in Tashkent.
Uldis Reimanis said that the delegation of Latvia arrived in with concrete issues. He said that the businesses of Latvia want to develop relations with their colleagues in Uzbekistan. He said that the governments of two states pay great attention to development of cooperation between two states. He said that Latvia is the third largest trade partner of Uzbekistan in the EU.
Edgars Suna, representative of the Freeport Riga said that share of Uzbekistan in total volume of turnover of Riga port makes up about 5%. Uzbekistan uses the port to transport agriculture products and construction materials.
Within the meeting of business circles of Uzbekistan and Latvia received an opportunity to hold negotiations and establish business contacts.
The delegation of Latvia will travel to Navoi region on 2 June. During the visit, the delegation will familiarize with the activities of special industrial-economic zone Navoi and intermodal logistic center Navoi. The guests will also visit Bukhara to familiarize with sights of the city.
On 3 June, the delegation of Latvia will participate in international conference of transport and logistics “Uzbekistan-Latvia-EU countries: new opportunities and perspectives”.
