Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Total potential of energy saving in Uzbekistan rated at 23 million tonnes of oil equivalent a year, implementation of which will help to decrease emission of greenhouse by 40 million tonnes, the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan said.
According to various expert assessments, energy saving is 2-5 times beneficial rather than construction of new energy generating capacities to meet growing demand for energy resources.
National experts noted that energy saving measures in power-consuming sectors of economy will help to save from 30% to 40% of preliminary energy resources or 16-21 billion cubic meters of gas.
Currently, UNDP and Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan prepared a project “Strategy for long-carbon development in three most power-consuming sectors of national economy” and corresponding roadmap with programme of measures and targeted indicators for up to 2030 and 2050.
Energy resources for up to 6.85 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030 and 27.3 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2050 can be saved via implementation of measures on raising efficiency of electricity production at thermal power station and decreasing losses at power distribution networks, and other measures.
In line with the estimates, increasing share of renewable sources of energy in energy balance of the country up to 19-23% will allow to save fuel-energy resources for up to 3.28 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030 and 5.88 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2050.
Experimental use of solar hot water supply facilities show that about 60-70% of demands of houses and communal objects for hot water in April-October can be satisfied with use of solar energy.
Construction of solar power station, combined with traditional sources of energy production, will allow to save 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas a year by 2030 and additionally produce 5 billion KWH of electricity a year.
Uzbekistan remains a leader among the CIS and Eastern Europe on number of registered Clean Development Mechanism projects, which are directed at decreasing greenhouse emission.
Foreign direct investments within the CDM projects exceeded US$24 million. The projects in oil and gas sector helped to save 700 million cubic meters of gas within the five years.
