UzLiDeP wins majority seats in Legislative Chamber

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The movement of entrepreneurs and business people – The Liberal-Democratic party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) won majority seats in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan in line with preliminary results of elections, which took place on 21 December 2014.

Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov stated that in line with the preliminary results of elections to the Legislative Chamber, MPs on 113 electoral districtswere elected.

He said that UzLiDeP won 47 seats, Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Milliy Tiklanish – 28, People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan – 21, Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Adolat – 17 seats.

He said that over 18.4 million people casted their votes in elections, which makes up 89% of total registered voters. About 8,311 voters excised their right of early voting.

Abdusalamov said that none of candidates collected half of votes at 22 districts and re-elections will be held at these districts. Two candidates, who collected most votes, will participate in re-elections. It is expected that re-elections will be held on 4 January 2015.

The CEC chief said that the conference of Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan was held on 21 December and 15 MPs to the Legislative Chamber were elected.

There was no information on violation of election legislation. The CEC hotline received several appeals, proposals and remarks on some issues and the commission undertook necessary measures in line with the legislation.

Currently, the CEC considered protocols and other documents of territorial election commissions and Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan. After review of the documents, the Central Election Commission will adopt a decision of the elections.

In line with the legislation, the results of the elections and list of elected MPs to the Legislative Chamber should be published within 10 days in local media. So, the results should be announced till 31 December 2014.
