UNDP holds workshop on GlobalGAP standard

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- UNDP’s Aid for Trade Project in cooperation with SGS certification company conducted the workshop on introduction of GlobalGAP standard on 1-2 December 2014.
GlobalGAP is a system of recognized international standards, created on the basis of the requirements of GHP, GMP and HACCP, which aims to ensure safety of agricultural products and compliance with existing quality and technical requirements.
The workshop was organized in order to support efforts to increase access of Uzbek fruit and vegetable products to the international markets.
More than 30 representatives of foreign trade companies, farmers–exporters, certification companies, office of FAO in Uzbekistan, Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, the Council of Farmers and research institutes participated at the workshop.
“The objectives of this workshop is to help national agricultural producers to introduce international standards of quality and safety in order to facilitate access to new perspective markets” – noted Dilshod Akbarov, the manager of UNDP’s Aid for Trade Project, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan. “In addition to providing a general overview of the standard’s requirements, its main principals and benefits, we would like to identify farmers and agrofirms, which are interested in introduction of GlobalGAP standards.”
“Introduction of GlobalGAP standards is beneficial, at the first place, to farmers” – said Alisher Makhmudov, auditor of the SGS company. Requirements of the standard for agricultural production, crops, fruits and vegetables were described in detail.
“The workshop helped to improve our knowledge on Global GAP standard and now we will share this knowledge with our farmers.” – noted with appreciation Marhabo Usmanova, the chief specialist of the Farmers’ Council of Tashkent Region.
