CEC: All political parties are planning to participate in elections

Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan (CEC) issues forms of signature sheets for collection of signatures of the voters to representatives of political parties, the press service of the body said.
The procedure is conducted to support participation of political parties in elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis.
All existing political parties of Uzbekistan – Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish”, People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and Social Democratic Party Adolat expressed wish to participate in the parliamentary elections.
In line with article 20 of the law “On elections to Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, the CEC issues signature sheets to the political parties after announcement of elections.
According to law, the political parties, registered at Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan, should nominate candidates to the post MPs four months before the election. The political parties should collect at least 40,000 signatures to support their participation in elections.
At the same time, number of collected signatures in one administrative territorial unit of the country – Karakalpakstan, region or Tashkent city, should not exceed 8% of required number.
In line with article 21 of the law “On elections to Oliy Majlisof Uzbekistan”, the parties should submit application to participation of elections, certificate from Ministry of Justice on registration of political party and signature sheets by 12 October to nominate candidates to the post of MPs. After submission of signature sheets, the CEC will check their validity.
If the CEC reveals falsification of signatures, the commission will not allow the political party to participate in the elections.
Based on submit of the documents, the Central Election Commission will adopt decision on admission of political party to elections. The CEC will publish list of political parties, which will take part in elections in mass media.
