Uzbekenergo to implement projects for US$6.5bn

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekenergo state joint stock company will implement investment projects for over US$6.5 billion by 2015, the deputy chairperson of Uzbekenergo Ruziqul Raimov said.
Raimov noted that the main direction of development of electricity till 2015 are determined in line with the resolutions of the President of Uzbekistan “On priorities of development of industry of Uzbekistan in 2011-2015” and “On investment programme of Uzbekistan for 2012”.
In line with the documents, Uzbekenergo will implement 48 investment projects with total cost of US$6.5 billion.
In particular, Uzbekenergo will implement 12 investment projects for US$3.124 billion in thermal energy and 10 invetsment projects for US$444 million in hydro energy.
It is also planned to implement 14 projects on modernization and construction of electricity networks with the cost of US$1.849 billion and investment projects for US$875 million in other sectors of energy.
Currently, Uzbekistan produces 84% of electricity at thermal power stations and 12-13% at hydro power stations. Share of alternative sources of energy makes up about 3%.
