Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan Permanent Representative to the United Nations Murad Askarov said at the meeting of the UN General Assembly’s First Committee that nuclear free zones became one of the ways to limit proliferation of nuclear weapons and overcoming existing and possible nuclear catastrophes.
Speaking at the meeting, Askarov said Uzbekistan initiated creation of nuclear free zone in Central Asia and called other regions to follow this example. Central Asian nuclear free zone became the fifth such area and the first in northern hemisphere, he said.
Uzbek Ambassador said the Central Asian nuclear free zone make a positive impact to security and stability in the world and freeing creative potential of its participants to solve actual development issues.
Askarov said the creation of new zones in other regions of the world will strengthen regional and global security.
