Uzbekistan to hold elections to self-governing bodies in May

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will hold elections of chairpersons (aksakals) of the self-governing bodies and their advisors in May 2019.
The Council of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan adopted resolution “On preparing and holding of elections of the chairpersons (aksakals) of the self-governing bodies and their advisors” on 16 February 2019.
The upper house of parliament created special commission on organizing and holding upcoming elections.
According to the Senate, elections will be conducted in 9,019 makhallas of Uzbekistan.
Citizens’ gatherings in Uzbekistan are self-governing bodies, which functions in villages, mahallas of cities and villages. The citizens’ gatherings represent interest of population and adopt decision on their behalf in their territories.
