Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A working group of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan made a working visit to the Republic of Karakalpakstan to directly and substantively study the investment and industrial potential of the region, as well as to provide effective support to entrepreneurs in implementing investment projects and solving existing problems.
A thorough analysis of the region: the existing source of raw materials, industrial and agricultural infrastructure and promising areas of investment with the ultimate goal of increasing exports - a new system approach of the newly formed Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.
There are 7 small industrial zones in Karakalpakstan, where 156 investment projects are implemented for 543 billion soums, including US$30 million of foreign direct investments.
The production of building materials, food products, yarn and linen, household chemicals, pharmaceutical preparations based on medicinal plants is developing intensively. Currently, a unique project is being worked out with Russian and German partners on the production of tower cranes with their subsequent one hundred percent export to third countries.
As part of the trip, the group visited several launch sites: the first was the pharmaceutical company Nukus Med Tex, equipped with modern Austrian equipment for the production of medical products and finished products, created through foreign investment in the amount of US$5 million.
The agricultural sector is also developing intensively - for example, the founder of Nukus Agro Fish, who is also the chief engineer who has implemented its own technological solutions in its production, plans to increase the volume of fish farming - the basic population will be more than 150,000 river and lake fish. The next stage is their processing and production of finished dried, salted and smoked products.
A large-scale socially significant project is being implemented in the health sector: an invasive surgery clinic, clinic, diagnostic center, simulation training lab - all on the basis of telemedicine, a complex of information and communication technologies that integrate all the units and departments of the medical complex into one system, which greatly facilitates and accelerates the provision of medical care, prevents the distortion and loss of patient data and eliminates the queues in various departments.
The total capacity of the complex will be 650 beds, which will primarily provide high-quality medical services and create the basis for the development of medical tourism. Currently, the issue of attracting additional funding for the timely completion of the project is being addressed, and a number of meetings are planned with the participation of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade with the participation of the founder of the complex, potential investors and representatives of the IFIs.
In addition, the ministry’s leadership held a meeting with the participation of deputy khokims on investment and foreign trade in order to personally get acquainted with regional representatives and elaborate the development strategy of the Republic of Karakalpakstan with the aim of intensifying cooperation with foreign investors and increasing export potential.
Particular attention was paid to the concept of linking existing raw materials and infrastructure capabilities to the interests and intentions of foreign partners in order to sell competitive products with high added value on foreign markets: there was a real need to create an integrated foreign trade base for manufacturers and customers both in the domestic market and abroad. The prospects for introducing the practice of pre-export financing as an important factor for the activities of exporters in priority sectors of the economy were mentioned more than once.
In turn, the leadership of the ministry conducted targeted interviews with authorized representatives of each region of the republic, held consultations on methodology, legal regulation, work with entrepreneurs and investors, and also offered to organize refresher courses, including on a grant basis in educational institutions like Uzbekistan and abroad.
