Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Central Asian region is one of the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Intensive melting of glaciers, increasing frequency of natural disasters and an increased degree of aridity are just a few factors that can cause great damage to economic stability and food security in the region.
The Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACCC) will be held on 3-4 April 2019 in Tashkent to discuss measures to combat the effects of climate change.
CACCC 2019 will bring together over 200 participants and speakers from leading national, regional and international organizations and departments. The conference is a continuation of the World Bank’s initiative to exchange knowledge and information on climate change in Central Asia, supported by the CAMP4ASB project.
CACCC 2019 will be held with the support of the World Bank, the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, Uzgidromet and the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia.
The main objective of the conference is to promote decision-making in the field of climate change adaptation, as well as mitigation of its consequences in Central Asia. According to the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the effects of global warming of even 1.5° C will be much more serious than expected. Countries will require significant efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The conference will provide up-to-date information on expected climate change trends, including the latest scientific data. Participants will be able to discuss the necessary joint measures to prevent the worst scenario of its impact on natural ecosystems, the environment and public health.
Special attention at CACCC 2019 will be devoted to issues of global and national policy, climate services, capacity building, the introduction of modern technologies in the field of climate change and the possibilities of climate financing.
Based on the results of the conference, a final document will be prepared, containing recommendations and a call for action on climate change adaptation and enhanced regional cooperation. Recall that the first conference was held on 24-25 January 2018 in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan and was the result of the fruitful work of all stakeholders. Following the results of CACCC 2018, key messages were developed which formed the basis of the thematic concept and program of the forthcoming CACCC 2019 event.
