Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 December 2018, the first round of inter-MFA political consultations between Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was held in Abu Dhabi.
At the meeting of delegations headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates Khalifa Shahin al-Marar stressed mutual interest in further development of cooperation in political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other areas.
A thorough review of the state of bilateral relations made it possible to focus on the existing significant non-core potential and the most promising areas for increasing interaction.
A schedule of upcoming contacts at various levels for 2019 has been reviewed.
The Uzbek side confirmed that the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United Arab Emirates will be appointed soon, which will allow two sides to intensify bilateral contacts on a systematic basis, including between the business circles of the two countries. In this context, the parties substantively discussed the expansion of mutual trade both in terms of the mutual supply of goods and services, as well as in the volume of trade.
As noted, the presence of direct flights between Uzbekistan and the UAE is also an important prerequisite for the development of tourist exchanges.
During the discussion of regional issues, the parties agreed to cooperate in implementing the provisions of the Tashkent Declaration of the International Conference on Afghanistan adopted on March 27, 2018, which was attended by a delegation of the United Arab Emirates headed by State Minister of Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash.
Other issues on the common agenda were also considered during the consultations.
