Alleged human traffickers face criminal charges in northwestern Uzbek region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Criminal charges have been brought against a number of people for involvement in human trafficking in northwestern Uzbekistan, the Uzbek Narodnoye Slovo newspaper reported on 16 December.
In an article published in the newspaper, a senior assistant to the Khorazm regional prosecutor wrote that criminal proceedings had been launched against several people in the region for selling men and women abroad, forcing them into prostitution and to work for free.
The author said that a group of Uzbek men deceived by the suspected traffickers became "slaves" in Kazakhstan. They also forced young girls into prostitution in Kazakhstan and India, the author said.
