Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The official delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Trade Jamshid Khodjaev visited Pakistan.
The delegation of Uzbekistan included representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, State Committee for Investments and other state bodies.
The delegation held talks at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, as well as in the Ministry of Commerce and Textile Industry. As a result of the negotiations, agreements and contracts were reached in various spheres.
During the talks with the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Pakistan, Minister S.Bosan noted that he personally appreciated the high quality from agricultural machinery of Uzbekistan during his visit to Tashkent.
"The Uzbekistan-made equipment is not inferior to European analogues, while having a more attractive value. Taking into account the fact that Pakistan needs only 20,000 tractors a year, we are interested in acquiring the Uzbek machinery and organizing assembly production in Pakistan,” the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Food Security said.
At the initiative of the Uzbek delegation, the parties agreed to establish a joint working group for analysis and further revision of customs duties. In addition, the Pakistani side is ready to make every effort to quickly organize assembly production of agriculture machinery in Punjab province.
Also, the readiness was expressed to work with the countries concerned on the organization of transport corridors.
As a result of the talks, the parties reached agreements on starting cooperation in the field of certification and standardization, including ensuring mutual recognition of the certificates of the two countries.
According to the Minister of Commerce and Textile Industry of Pakistan M. Dagh, reforms implemented in Uzbekistan open new opportunities for development of trade and economic cooperation between the countries and motivate them to increase trade with Uzbekistan. In order to ensure the reliability of supply channels, the parties agreed to establish direct air transportation between countries and jointly work out the most optimal and safe transport routes.
Uzbekistan and Pakistan reached the agreement on elaboration of the conclusion of interbank agreements and simplification of visa procedures for business circles of the two countries.
Within the framework of the visit, an official opening ceremony of the office of the Uzbek-Pakistani Business Council was held in Islamabad, and its first meeting was held.
The participants of the event received information on trade and investment potential of Uzbekistan. Also, within the framework of the visit, two business forums were organized jointly with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rawalpindi and the Pakistani-Uzbek Trade and Cultural Center. More than 170 Pakistani companies took part in the events.
"The Uzbek-Pakistani business council in Islamabad, like the newly opened trading house in Tehran, are among the many sites created to support Uzbek entrepreneurs. While the ministry and agencies are working to create an enabling environment at the intergovernmental level by establishing preferential trade regimes and eliminating trade barriers, the business platform is created as a tool to effectively use the created conditions already at the B2B level. Therefore, I encourage all entrepreneurs involved in or planning to start foreign trade activities, actively use these multi-profile platforms. Entrepreneurs can place samples of their products free of charge in showrooms of trading houses. This mechanism of multi-level trade promotion is used to support entrepreneurs interested in entering foreign markets. On all issues related to foreign business platforms, businessmen can apply to the foreign trade companies of the ministry,” the Minister of Foreign Trade Jamshid Khodjaev commented.
As a result of the negotiations with the leading companies of Pakistan, agreements on the implementation of investment projects worth US$35.5 million were signed in such areas as pharmaceuticals, leather production and development of the tourism industry.
Also, agreements were reached on the supply of beans and dried agricultural products, textile, leather and petrochemical products to Pakistan for US$8.7 million.
