Uzbekistan creates International Islamic Academy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree On measures to radically improve the activities of the religious and educational sphere”.
The Decree approved a program of measures, which envisages measures to improve the regulatory framework, educational and training system, retraining of personnel, and implementation of measures to strengthen religious tolerance. The document also envisages measures for preservation of national and cultural values and creation of conditions for pilgrimage tourism.
According to the decree, the International Islamic Academy is being established in Uzbekistan with regional branches in Karakalpakstan, Samarkand, Namangan and Surkhandarya regions, as well as a center for advanced training. The Academy is created on the basis of the Tashkent Islamic Institute.
The document said that the media center "Ziyo" will work at the academy. The center will promote the religious and scientific heritage of our ancestors.
The President also ordered to establish the Scientific School of Hadith as the highest religious educational institution.
Under the Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan, a charitable public fund "Waqf" will be opened, which will finance, inter alia, reconstruction of mosques and other facilities, and provide material and technical base of the sphere.
In the Committee on Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers, an Information and Analytical Center for Study of Religious Social Processes is being created. It will analyze literature and press materials on religious topics, identify early factors that have a negative impact on the stability of the religious and social situation, and develop recommendations for their elimination.
