Over 30m mulberry seedlings planted in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- There are 43.9 million trees of mulberry in Uzbekistan and total area, allocated for breeding silkworms, is 43,400 hectares, the Uzbekipaksanoat (Uzbek Silk Industry) Association said.
The Association said that 30 million mulberry seedlings were planted in the regions of Uzbekistan. About 13.3 million mulberry seedlings were bought from China. High intensity mulberry gardens were created in the country.
About 600 hectares of land were allocated to cultivation of seeds of mulberry and nursery. Mulburry farms were created. This will help to satisfy demand of Uzbekistan for mulberry seedlings.
According to the results of the first quarter of 2018, enterprises for the processing of cocoons produced industrial products worth 165 billion soums and consumer goods worth 19.7 billion soums, as well as 683.3 tons of natural silk, 1,034 million meters silk fabrics.
The industry exported processed waste for US$20.9 million in 2016 and US$37.6 million in 2017. In the first quarter of 2018, exports amounted to US$9.6 million.
