Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State Corporation Rosatom is currently discussing with the Government of Uzbekistan an agreement on construction of a nuclear power plant. General director of the state corporation Alexei Likhachev stated during his meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
The head of Rosatom expressed hope that with the assistance of the Government and the Foreign Ministry of Russia in the future, a number of countries, wishing to build nuclear power plants, will grow.
“We are working in this sense with Saudi Arabia, with Uzbekistan. Although Uzbekistan is not a newcomer in the nuclear industry, generally speaking,” he said. Likhachev said Uzbekistan used research reactors during the Soviet times. “But there are no large nuclear power plants there,” he said.
Likhachev said the company is currently negotiating with the government of Uzbekistan to sign an intergovernmental agreement on construction of the nuclear power station.
