Number of small businesses exceeds 229,600 units

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As of 1 January 2018, the number of operating small businesses in Uzbekistan was over 229,600 units, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.

This indicator is 9.1% more than the same period last year. The main part of operating small businesses is in Tashkent city (52314 units or 22.8%), Tashkent region (21647 units or 9.4%), Andijan region (20342 units and 8.9%) and Ferghana region (20225 units or 8.8%).

At the end of 2017, the number of newly created small businesses made up 38,100 units, which is 22.0% more than in 2016. Most of all the newly created small businesses fell to share of Tashkent city (9526 units), Tashkent region (3894 units), Ferghana region (3292 units) and Samarkand region (3259 units). The smallest falls on Syrdarya region (1189 units), Navoi region (1228 units) and Khorezm region (1565 units).

The committee said that 8.2% of small businesses are small enterprises and 91.8% - microfirms.

As of 1 January 2018, the number of registered family enterprises that passed state registration as a legal entity reached 12,184 units, of which 11679 units or 95.9% were active.

Of the total number of existing family businesses (11679 units) of the main part of them registered in Ferghana region (2146 units or 18.4%), Tashkent city (1912 units or 16.4%), Samarkand region (1549 units or 13.3%) and Tashkent region (1313 units or 11.2%).

The smallest number of the existing family enterprises are in Syrdarya region (61 units or 0.5%), Namangan region (250 units or 2.1%), Jizzakh (337 units or 2.9%) and Andijan region (467 units or 4.0%).

Major share falls to industry (38.6% or 4512 units), accommodation and food services (20.2% or 2354 units), trade (15.4% or 1803 units), agriculture, forestry and fisheries (12.0% or 1,401 units), information and communication (1.3% or 149 units), construction (1.2% or 143 units), transportation and storage (1.1% or 133 units), and other sectors (9.3% or 1085 units).

About 1,640 family enterprises operate in industry sector, 884 - accommodation and food services, 560 – trade, 467 - agriculture, forestry and fisheries and 413 – other sectors.
