Turkish-Uzbek trade to reach US$1bn in 2008, says envoy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Kemal Asya, Turkey’s ambassador to Uzbekistan, forecast that Turkish-Uzbek trade would climb over US$1 billion in 2008.
"The trade volume between the two countries was up 56% and reached US$573 million in the first half of this year," Asya told reporters.
Asya said that the trade volume between Turkey and Uzbekistan was only US$840 million in 2007.
The ambassador said that 534 companies were operating with Turkish capital in Uzbekistan, and also said that 122 of them were enterprises with hundred-percent Turkish capital.
Asya said that Turkish construction firms had undertaken projects in Uzbekistan worth US$940 million between 1992 and 2008.
