Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan and the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the US Department of Justice signed a memorandum of understanding, Jahon news agency reported.
The document was signed on 4 December 2017 within the visit of the Uzbek delegation headed by First Deputy Prosecutor General Murotjon Azimov to the United States.
On the American side, the document was signed by Acting Deputy Director of the FBI John Walker.
The document will allow to bring to a qualitatively higher level a partnership between the relevant structures of the two countries and enhance the effectiveness of cooperation in combating crime and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The Memorandum envisages exchange of experience and information on legislation and law enforcement practice, advanced investigative techniques and modern mechanisms for deepening theoretical and practical skills in conducting research in this field.
It was stressed that the absence of such a treaty for many years hampered the operational cooperation of the competent authorities of the two countries.
An agreement was reached to intensify contacts and interaction on a number of important security issues of mutual interest.
