President of Uzbekistan pardons 2,700 convicts

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on pardoning 2,700 convicts.

The document was adopted on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The presidential decree on pardoning convicts was adopted for the first time. Earlier, the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan adopted resolutions on amnesty.

According to the decree, some 2 700 convicts will be pardoned, including 956 people will be released from penal colonies.

The act on pardoning these convicts provides the opportunity for an early reunification with a family and returning to society in order to become active participants in the ongoing reforms in the country.
