Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- During the first nine months of 2017, trade between Uzbekistan and Russia made up US$2.4 billion, which grew by 23% compared to the same period of 2016, the Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Vladimir Tyurdenev said.
“An important impetus to development of trade, economic and investment cooperation between our countries was the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on promotion of interregional cooperation during the April visit of Shavkat Mironovich Mirziyoyev to Moscow,” the Ambassador said.
“The number and scope of business mission increased significantly. So, if in 2016, 19 business missions took place, in which 122 companies from 23 regions participated, 21 business missions were already held in 2017, in which representatives of over 160 Russian companies from 29 subjects of the Federation took part,” he added.
The Russian diplomat said that according to the results of business missions, export contracts (agreements) worth US$4.6 million were signed. In 2017, about 70 Russian regions interacted with business entities of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
“Practical results of intensifying interregional exchanges can be seen through the prism of statistical data of bilateral trade. Today, Russia is the leading trade partner of Uzbekistan,” the diplomat stressed.
Tyurdenov said that trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Russia made up US$2.4 billion in the first nine months of 2017, which grew by 23% year-on-year.
He added that in many respects, this was achieved through diversification of mutual trade and increase in the supply of Uzbek textile and fruit and vegetable products to Russia, for which in accordance with the agreements of the presidents of two states created a “green corridor” to simplify procedure for customs clearance.
According to him, the task is to increase the trade turnover up to US$5 billion by the end of the year. To this end, Russian and Uzbek partners need to make full use of the existing potential and continue to increase cooperation in the trade and economic sphere.
Trade turnover, according to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, in 2016 made up US$4.2 billion.
