Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan handed over a gift – a maquette of the Registan Square, which is located in the center of Samarkand city – to the United Nations.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and UN Under-Secretary-General for Management Jan Beagle participating in the handing over ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Speaking at the event, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed hope that everyone, who sees the maquette of the Registan Square, will try to learn more about the history of Uzbekistan, the people of the country, development of Uzbekistan and the pearl of Uzbekistan - Samarkand.
“Without Samarkand, one cannot talk about the Great Silk Road,” the Uzbek leader added.
The maquette of the Registan square was made by craftsmen of Uzbekistan and decorated with precious metals and stones.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Management Jan Beagle expressed gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for this gift.
The Registan Square is a real gem located in the very heart of the ancient city of Samarkand. It has gained its worldwide fame thanks to the great architectural ensemble of the XV-XVI centuries, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
