New bioreactor landfill to be create in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures to implement the project “Modernization of Solid Waste Management in Samarkand” on 19 July 2017.
The document approved measures to implement the project on the modernization of solid waste management in the city of Samarkand. The project will be implemented jointly with the French Development Agency.
According to the document, the state unitary enterprise Maroqand Obod under the Khokimiyat of Samarkand city will implement the project. Targeted and effective use of loans and grants, as well as repayment of loans allocated to the project is assigned to Maroqand Obod.
The project will be realized within 5 years - from 2017 to 2021. A new bioreactor landfill will be created within the project, where new biogas capture and utilization systems will be installed.
On 19 December 2016, Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency signed a loan agreement for 23.5 million for implementation of the project “Modernization of Solid Waste Management in Samarkand”.
The loan is granted for a period of 20 years, including a five-year grace period. The sides also signed an agreement on grant financing from the funds of the European Union Investment Fund for Central Asia in the amount of 8 million euros.
Under the project, Uzbekistan will provide 5.6 million euros, of which 3.2 million euros will be provided in the form of tax and customs benefits for implementation of the project.
The head of Uzbekistan granted tax and customs privileges for the project participants.
