Uzbekistan studies opportunities for joining TAPI project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is studying the prospects and possibilities for joining the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, the chairperson of the Board of Uzbekneftegaz Alisher Sultanov stated.
He said that issues of accession of Uzbekistan to the TAPI project was raised during the visit of the country’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Turkmenistan in May 2017.
Sultanov stated that Turkmenistan offered Uzbekistan to take part in the project. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed Uzbekneftegaz to study the project.
He added that currently there is no decision whether Uzbekistan will participate in this project or not. He said that it is expensive project and everything should be considered.
At the same time, Sultanov said that the project could help Uzbekistan to diversify exports of gas.
Uzbekneftegaz chief said that there are some regional issues, which should be solved in order to supply gas to India and Pakistan within the project.
