Minister of Health of Uzbekistan meets with new WHO Director-General

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Health of Uzbekistan Alisher Shadmanov met with the new Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Uzbek Health Ministry said that the meeting was held in Geneva on the sidelines of the 70th session of the World Health Assembly. The delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Minister of Health Alisher Shadmanov is taking part in the session.
Ethiopian candidate Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus became the new general director of the World Health Organization, winning in the third round of voting on Tuesday. He will take office from 1 July 2017.
During the meeting, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that the main points of his campaign coincide with Uzbekistan’s priorities in the health sector.
The new head of WHO expressed readiness to develop comprehensive cooperation between Uzbekistan and the organization in areas of mutual interest.
Minister of Health Alisher Shadmanov informed the head of WHO about reforms, conducted in healthcare system in Uzbekistan and to improve the level of provision of medical services to the population.
