Uzbekistan improves system of storing and researching manuscripts

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on measures to further improve storage, research and promotion of ancient written sources on 24 May 2017.
The document was adopted to strengthen national self-awareness, ensure continuity of historical memory, careful treatment, and broad propaganda of cultural and spiritual values.
The resolution is aimed at improving work on preservation and study of rich written heritage, its wide propaganda and strengthening of the international authority of Uzbekistan as a country that has a great impact on development of world science and culture.
Institute of Oriental Studies named after Abu Rayhan Beruni of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan is defined as the leading scientific research institution for preservation, study, research and propagation of ancient manuscripts and other written sources of historical and cultural significance.
Uzbek President defined the main tasks and priority directions of the institute on the basis of modern requirements.
In particular, the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Abu Raikhan Beruni will preserve and replenish its funds through the acquisition of manuscripts and other written monuments kept by the population.
The document notes that an expert group and a commission are being established to collect, evaluate and acquire literary monuments.
The Institute will expand and deepen research of the scientific works of scientists and thinkers who lived and worked in Central Asia in the Middle Ages, in exact, natural, humanitarian and Islamic sciences. The Institute will introduce these scientific works into the educational and upbringing process.
The resolution also envisages measures on strengthening of the material and technical base of the photo and the restoration laboratories of the Institute.
President ordered to establish the Museum of Oriental Manuscripts to exhibit and promote rich and diverse written heritage of Uzbekistan.
The museum will feature the brightest samples from the Institute’s manuscript collection.
The Institute of Oriental Studies named after Abu Rayhan Beruni of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan has a large fund of manuscript heritage. Institute’s collection was included in the UNESCO World Memory as one of the unique scientific and cultural sites.
The Institute’s fund consists of six collections and includes more than 26,000 volumes of manuscripts, over 39,000 volumes of lithographed books and about 10,000 pieces of historical documents in Arabic, Persian, old Uzbek and other oriental languages.
