Programme on developing system of waste processing adopted

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures on cardinal improvement and development of the system on waste management for 2017-2021” on 21 April.
Uzbek leader approved measures on improving system of collection, storage, utilization and processing of solid waste for 2017-2021.
According to the resolution, Uzbekistan plans to purchase 237 units of special equipment in 2017. Also, 94 garages will be built and 168 sorting devices for solid household waste will be installed.
Uzbekistan plans to realize projects on development of the system for collecting, transporting, recycling and processing waste in the cities of Uzbekistan with the involvement of the funds of international financial institutions. These projects worth more than US$161 million will be realized in Tashkent, Samarkand, Andijan and Namangan.
President approved a program on developing 168 solid waste landfills by building 114 thousand linear meters of fences, 152 sanitary units, 158 household rooms, 163 car washes, 269 kilometers of power lines, 166 wells for technical water supply, and asphalting 240 kilometers of access roads.
Head of Uzbekistan approved the forecast parameters for the introduction of modern technologies for the processing of solid domestic waste for 2017-2018. In the next two years, it is planned to construct enterprises for the processing of domestic waste in Nukus and in all regional centers for total sum of US$27 million.
It is planned to direct over 1 trillion soums to finance the programme in 2017-2021.
Implementation of the resolution will increase the coverage of household with the waste removal services in Uzbekistan from 63% in 2017 to 93% in 2021.
