Tashkent hosts forum on capacity building of vocational training

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 16 February, Tashkent hosted the first forum within the project for “Establishment of Vocational Training Center in Shahrisabz City and Consulting on Capacity Building of Vocational Education in Uzbekistan”. The project cost was US$8.5 million.
The event was organized by Office of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Labour of Uzbekistan.
KOICA Office Director noted that Korea and Uzbekistan are continuing close mutual collaboration on priority areas such as education, health and water resources management, and public administration (e-government). Particular attention in the field of education is given by KOICA to projects for the development of vocational training. In this regard, in 2012 a Tashkent vocational training center was put into operation, which until today provided high quality training to over 2,800 of its graduates. Stable operations are maintained at Samarkand vocational training center, which was built and commissioned in October last year. In addition, this year with the support of KOICA, the construction works are ongoing for the third vocational training center in Shakhrisabz (Kashkadarya).
Director of KOICA Office stated that the first forum was organized to present an interim report on the project, as well as to discuss the progress on the development of legislative documents, operation and management, and NSC in vocational training in Uzbekistan. The participants also discussed plans for the future.
Minister of Labor Aziz Abduhakimov praised the positive results of a wide range of mutually beneficial strategic cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea, the strengthening of friendly ties between our peoples, special and significant place of joint projects implemented in the development of Uzbekistan’s economy.
At the same time the Minister noted that the issues of employment, especially among young people, are marked as priority due to being listed among priorities of the program of social and economic development of the country in the recently adopted special decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "Action Strategy for the Further Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021". With the purpose of training and retraining of unemployed citizens, including graduates of educational institutions on modern professions (specialties), demanded the labor market, the Ministry of Labor of the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly with the Korea International Cooperation Agency are implementing projects for "Development of opportunities for vocational training in Uzbekistan " under which the vocational training centers are established. The originality of vocational training and re-training in these centers is that the curricula and syllabuses for selected areas of study are designed in a completely new way, taking into account best international practices and based on the requirements of the state educational standards.
Most importantly, none of the graduates of the centers will be left without a job upon graduation, they will be employed in accordance with the obtained specialization in accordance with 4-party agreements (Employment Assistance Center, Enterprise, Vocational Training Center and an unemployed person).
During the forum, the participants discussed the project components such as: system of vocational training, management and operation, law, and NSC (national competency standards). The forum was concluded with open discussions, during which the participants received answers to their questions.
