EU launches new programme in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- European Union launched a new programme “Sustainable Development in Rural Areas of Uzbekistan”.
The objectives of the Programme is to transfer of the EU agro-food know-how and technologies in partnership with local authorities, farmers and agribusiness, for further developing socio-economic potentials in rural areas of Uzbekistan.
The cost of the programme is 9.32 million euros. It will be implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the French Agency for the development of international cooperation in the areas of agriculture, food and rural space (ADECIA), the Italian Breeders’ Association (AIA) and the Bulgarian Centre for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (CEED) was launched at the beginning of 2016.
The Programme consists of three areas further development of commodity value-chains mainly related to the agri-food sector (livestock breeding, gardening vegetable growing and services sector); further development and improvement of skills and techniques of economic players, including youth; and implementation of modern technologies and training on their application; retraining of farmers and improvement of agri-product processing methods. The programme will also include component on further strengthening and improvement of planning capacities of regional and local authorities.
The total duration of the project activities is 3 years. The project will be implemented in Namangan, Andijan, Fergana, Jizzakh, Syrdarya and Kashkadarya regions.
